So the reroute works in our favour. We will now
go to Great Sand Dunes National Park, drive to Durango, then take the train from there to Silverton.
( http://www.durangotrain.com/ ) for wilderness access on the Colorado Trail ( http://www.coloradotrail.org/google-earth.html ) So we will be hiking there and camping by Molas lake hopefully. It took some research but I found an awesome limo service that will pick us up from the trail head on the road between Durango and Silverton returning us to our car.

 I forgot to mention that it only took 3 phone calls and 1:20 hrs of my life to arrange 2 adult and 2 kid tickets on the train, the bonus was kids are free that day, c'mon kids yall can ride with us.
